Together in Spirit:

A Virtual Celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride

This curriculum was created by the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus (NYCGMC) to educate students on the history and meaning of LGBTQ+ Pride. On June 28, 1970, several thousand activists marked the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall uprising--a rebellion sparked by police harassment of LGBTQ+ people in New York City--with a rally and march through city streets. This event was initially called “Christopher Street Liberation Day,” but quickly evolved into the annual New York City Pride March. Despite the need to be socially distant because of COVID-19, we are finding new ways to be ‘Together in Spirit’ to celebrate  the 50th anniversary of this momentous occasion.
