On Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Diamond Horseshoe in Manhattan’s theatre district, we hosted our biggest and most spectacular ever Harmony—the annual Fundraising gala, and New York’s gayest frolic, in support of NYCGMC and YPC.
This year’s Harmony was hosted by Broadway sensation, Nick Adams, and featured special performances by the legendary Lady Bunny and dance pop superstar Erika Jayne from Bravo’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, as well as performances by NYCGMC, YPC, and the new NYCGMC ensemble, Tonewall. Harmony also included live, silent, and online auctions for an array of prizes, such as vacations, tickets to top Broadway shows, dinners at some of the city’s best restaurants, unique artwork, special experiences, and many other exclusive offerings.
Now in its seventh year, Harmony has become one of the most fun, high-energy, and must-attend fundraising galas on the New York social calendar. It is also an opportunity to honor and commend leaders in arts and entertainment for their contributions to the industry and the community. The Arts in Action Award, honoring success in entertainment and inspiring change, was presented to writer and performer Lisa Kron, who most recently won two Tony Awards for her work as librettist and lyricist for the musical Fun Home. The Gary Miller Award, honoring significant contributions to LGBTQ arts in New York City, was presented to Maria-Elena Grant who has been an advocate for the LGBTQ community for more than 25 years.
The missions of both New York City Gay Men’s Chorus and Youth Pride Chorus have always been about pushing the envelope, being fierce champions for equality, love, and acceptance, and having a damn good time doing it. Harmony’s “Moulin Rouge” theme brought all of this to life at one of the city’s most seductive venues, the Diamond Horseshoe.
NYCGMC also launched its new branding at Harmony, including a new logo, visual system, and website. The new logo, inspired by a chorus singing in unison with a distinct perspective, reflects today’s highly diverse and confident LGBTQ community, as well as the vibrancy and architecture of New York City and our continuing mission to change lives through superb singing.
