NYCGMC was proud to co-commission Tyler's Suite, a collection of songs about Tyler Clementi, the New Jersey teenager whose suicide brought national and international attention to the issue of cyberbullying.
On June 27, 2015 NYCGMC performed a special concert of Tyler's Suite in Tyler's hometown of Ridgewood, NJ for an audience of people who knew Tyler since childhood and who are still grieving over his death. The concert took place at West Side Presbyterian Church.
Tyler's mother Jane Clementi, who with her husband Joe co-founded the Tyler Clementi Foundation, expected this particular concert to be the hardest for her personally, but added that she was ready for it. "We were grateful because it does continue to share Tyler's story and give us a platform to speak about bullying, and how to stop it. We want to create a culture shift," she added.
Tyler's Suite features captivating, new music from, amongst others, Stephen Schwartz, John Corigliano, John Bucchino, and Ann Hampton Callaway, and was commissioned in cooperation with The Tyler Clementi Foundation.
