On Monday, November 2, the Drama League celebrated its 100th Anniversary by paying tribute to Broadway legend, Bernadette Peters. The gala, held at the historic Plaza Hotel, featured theatre personalities performing numbers from Peters’ storied career. Ms. Peters knew who many of the performers were going to be; however, she did not know about the presence of the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus.
As the surprise finale of the evening, one hundred thirty-five members of NYCGMC surrounded the ballroom and serenaded Ms. Peters and the gathered guests with “Sunday,” from Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George, one of the many legendary shows from Peters’ career.
The next morning Bernadette Peters Tweeted “@nycgaychorus you brought me to tears. Thank you for singing ‘Sunday‘. It was so moving !!”
