Connect
Our Connect program has us performing in a wide variety of places – from department stores to Marriage Equality rallies, from street corners and subway rides to insurance companies and cathedrals, from elderly care homes to day centers for those living with AIDS. In groups large and small, we sing carols and Madonna songs, African chants and freedom songs – whatever will resonate with our audience. Our 2009 summer alone encompassed over 20 performances in every borough – from Queens to Brooklyn and from Staten Island to the Bronx.
Singing is it!
In 2010-11 we piloted a new project called Singing is it! The goal was simple – to get New York City singing.
For 30 years now, New York City Gay Men’s Chorus has been empowering its members through singing, and sings to the world to challenge stereotypes and fight homophobia.
In groups from 20 to 200, we perform the most diverse range of songs, from Lady Gaga to Handel, from Judy Garland to songs from South Africa.
In the process, we have changed so many of the lives of our members and their families for the better, and we have brought our message of tolerance, healing and hope to many thousands of listeners around the world.
With Singing is it!, we are taking this mission to a new level. We want to get YOU singing along with us. During our 2011-12 season, we aim to sing:
- On the streets
- In schools
- In residential centres for people living with HIV
- In homes for the elderly
- In every borough of New York City
- To listeners of every ethnicity
Our goal is not just to sing, but to get our audience singing with us. Because we are all human beings, we sing TOGETHER!
Our Singing is it! ensemble is a diverse group, containing great singers from all over New York City. It also contains skilled entertainers and educators, trained to get listeners of all ages and backgrounds singing along with us. We also like to work with other choirs and groups, so if you’d like to join us for a Singing is it! event, get in touch.
