What a lovely day for a sing! Last Sunday, we opened our 2013-14 season with an NYCGMC Singathon, to celebrate the end of our annual membership drive and make a big noise on the New York City streets in aid of full equality.
We sang in the glorious early Fall sunshine for four hours, sold cookies, solicited donations large and small and assembled a large crowd of several hundred, many of whom sang along.
Our peaceful performance of Whitacre’s ‘Seal Lullaby’ as the sun began to set was a highlight, and there was also a moving massed joint song with members of our sister organisation, the Stonewall Chorale, the nation’s first LGBT chorus.
New York City Gay Men’s Chorus is an amazing organisation, that provides a community and a family for its members and sings fabulously absolutely anywhere where we can connect with people. If you would like to help us continue our important work fighting for full equality through song, there is still time to donate. Just click here.

Emceed by ‘host extraordinaire’ Jim Caruso (Cast Party at Birdland, Liza’s at The Palace!) this fifth sing-a-long in our Big Gay Sing series explores Broadway! We’ll look at what makes the ‘gay’ in Broadway musical theatre, and feature the music of top gay (straight and sometimes closeted) American composers and performers. And, as always, there will be tons of audience sing-a-long opportunities – cause at Big Gay Sing you’re the star! BGS5 will take place at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts on March 15th and 16th, 2013. Tickets go on sale Thursday February 7, 2013.
